Season Update!

We are now into the home stretch of the season. Let us support our boys as much as we can as their 1st team hockey experience will be ending in just over amonth - and they will be splintering off to attend different High Schools next year where they will be playing against one another rather than WITH!

It is hard to believe that they have played in a staggering 46 matches.

Our record stands at 28 wins; 10 draws; 8 losses.

The match went to penalty flicks and still no winner, the match was then decided by the toss of a coin - awful way to decide a match. But in the end - GENE LOUW PS won the Tournament. Worked out well for us on this occasion!

Our season starts!

The one word used to describe the Knysna tour is - SUCCESSFUL!Our team won the league phase of the tournament and in the process won four of their seven matches, drawing one and losing two - a great record indeed. We scored 12 goals while conceding 7.The pro 20 part of the tour was played according to different rules with matches being decided by one half of 10min hockey, penalty flicks coming into play for a draw. Here the only way we were beaten was through the dreaded penalty flick - twice.Here follows a brief description of the matches we played!

Knysna Results!

Game-1 vs Oakhill PS (Knysna)
The game started with a lot of pressure being put on our goal. The kids weathered the storm and slowly started to find their feet. Half-time score was 0-0. Jarryd was the star and scored the first goal of our season with a lovely reverse hit. The final score was a Gene Louw win 1-0.

Game-2 vs Eversdal PS
We started the game being more focussed and were solid throughout. We took the lead with a Michael flick but soon lost our focus for a brief moment which allowed them to equalise. Gene Louw showed great character to fight back and score with 10sec of the match remaining. Samuel's shot was blocked by the keeper but he followed up to round the keeper and score the winning goal. Final score: 2-1.

Game-3 vs Rhenish
The boys put up a commendable performance against very physical opposition. The only goal of the match was scored by Rhenish early in the second half against the run of play. Some of the umpiring was questionable but our boys put up a spirited fight. Well done guys, you did well! Final score 0-1.

Game-4 vs KSS (Knysna Sports School)
This game followed immediately after the Rhenish encounter and the boys were still clearly drained from that effort. They struggled to control their play and went one goal down shortly after the break. Joshua equalised soon after and we had enough chances to win the match but conceded a second goal just seconds before the end. Final score 1-2.

Game-5 vs The Grove PS
The teams were well matched but Gene Louw showed spirit and a fighting quality that soon saw Samuel scoring the first goal. We went on to dominate the second half and Jarryd scored two goals that saw us run out 3-0 winners. The boys played a lovely passing game for the first time during the tournament.

Game-6 vs KSS Inv.
This is a game that Gene Louw totally dominated and should have won a lot easier than we did. We were held to 0-0 at halftime afterwhich Tristan eventually broke the deadlock after some chaos during a short corner. Michael ran the ball into the net for the second. The opposition managed to get into our half on only 5 occasions during the entire game. Final scoe 2-0.

Game-7 vs Bishops
What a game and one definately for the history books! This was a remarkable game played at a quick tempo that ebbed and flowed throughout. Bishops scored first and Michael equalised soon after. Bishops scored again only for Michael to equalise again. We continued the fight to take the lead when Armando scored as he and Tristan short passed their way to the goal. Our opponents came back at us again to score the goal that ended the match as a draw. Final score 3-3.

This ended the league part of the tournament and we were deservedly named the winners - Well done guys, no one can take that away from you.
